Three Stars (Week 12)

Kyle Flanagan
First Star: Kyle Flanagan (SLU)
What a difference this guy makes for his team! The Saints captain missed the previous eight games with an injury, but continued his brilliant season in his return this weekend with a combined three goals and three assists and captured MVP honors at the Ledyard Bank Classic. In the 6-6 tie (won in shootout) Flanagan tied the game at three with a power-play goal and had the primary assist on SLU's fifth and sixth goals, while chipping in another assist. The following night the Canton native scored both Saint goals in the 2-2 tie with Dartmouth (also won in shootout).

Even though he's only played in 11 of St. Lawrence's 19 games, he leads the team with nine goals and 19 points. He's tallied at least one point in nine of his games, and accumulated more than one point in seven of his games. Also, his 1.73 points per game is tops in the nation.

Jack Maclellan
Second Star: Jack Maclellan (Brown)
Maclellan is another ECAC captain who came through big for his team this weekend. The Bears had two big wins against Hockey East foes New Hampshire and Providence, both by the score of 5-2. He netted the eventual game-winning goal and chipped in an assist against UNH, and did the same against the Friars in the battle for the Mayor's Cup, scoring the eventual GWG while shorthanded and adding an assist. Maclellan also leads his team in goals and points.

Third Star: Brian O'Neill (Yale)
Ok, I know Bentley is pretty terrible, but you still have to give any guy some credit for scoring four goals in a game. No matter who you play, that's still a pretty great feat. Oh, and he is also the captain of his team and leads his team in goals and points. Funny how it worked this week, right?

O'Neill also tallied three assists in the exhibition game against the Russian Touring Team on Thursday.

Three Stars (Week 2)

Jeremy Langlois
Here are my Three Stars of the Week:

First Star: Jeremy Langlois - Quinnipiac
In three games against Atlantic Hockey teams, Langlois absolutely dominated the competition. He tallied an assist against Holy Cross on Wednesday, netted a hat trick and added an assist on Saturday at home against Canisius, and scored another power-play goal on Sunday against the Golden Griffins. So, if you're keeping track at home, that's four goals and two assists in three games. His six goals are the most in the country, and his nine points are tied for tops in all of college hockey.

Second Star: Louke Oakley - Clarkson
Louke Oakley
The Golden Knights swept Sacred Heart this weekend where they scored a combined eight goals.... Oakley scored half of them, scoring twice in both contests, half of which came on the power-play. The senior forward is off to a scorching start the 11-12 season. He scored three goals in each of his first three seasons for nine career goals. He eclipsed his season-high in goals this weekend, and has five on the season. The way he's going it could be safe to say that he will score more than nine goals on the year.

Third Star: Kyle Flanagan - St. Lawrence
Kyle Flanagan
The Saints had a pretty terrible time on the road this week, first getting shellacked against Michigan, and then losing in OT at RIT, but Flanagan had two great offensive performances. On Thursday, he scored two of SLU's three goals (both on the power-play), and followed that up with another two goal performance in a 6-5 OT loss in Rochester. He added another power-play goal in that game, along with a shorthanded tally. His eight points on the season is currently tied for third most in the nation.

Even though these three guys are my "Three Stars" I still want to make a shout out to the Colgate Raiders, who I think really made a statement this weekend with a split with #4/#5 Miami. My "Three Stars" is based off of individual performances, but that doesn't mean any of the Raiders didn't have great weekends. Austin Smith scored a goal in each contest (giving him a goal in three straight games), Chris Wagner had a goal and two assists on the weekend, and goaltender Eric Mihalik made a combined 31 saves. We'll see if they can keep up their stellar play heading into their upcoming games with Atlantic Hockey teams before the league games begin.
