Three Stars (Week 17)

John Lidgett
First Star: John Lidgett (Colgate)
The Colgate freshman seems to be a player of streaks this season. In his first three career games he registered four points. Over the next 25 games he picked up only a goal and three assists. But this past weekend, Lidgett exploded for six points on three goals and three assists. In Friday's 4-2 win over Yale, the forward from Calgary had his hand in all four Raider goals. He assisted on Corbin McPherson's power-play goal in the first period, and then tallied his own PP tally in the second period. In the third, Lidgett scored the game-winning goal before assisting on Austin Smith's empty-net insurance goal. The following night, he added a goal and assist in Colgate's wild 7-6 win over Brown. Lidgett assisted on Nick Prockow's goal in the first period, and then scored Colgate's fourth goal of the evening. So, if you're keeping track at home, six of Lidgett's 14 points and three of his four goals came this weekend. Maybe he can help out Smith and Chris Wagner up front during playoff time.

Kellen Jones
Second Star: Kellen Jones (Quinnipiac)
After being shutout on Friday against St. Lawrence, Jones exploded for three goals and two assists against Clarkson the following night. First, Jones assisted on Matthew Peca's goal that tied the game at two late in the first period. Then, gave the Bobcats a 4-3 lead 2:20 into the middle frame, just 16 seconds after Clarkson scored a goal. The Golden Knights then quickly took a 6-4 lead, but Jones led his team back to tie the game and then secure the victory. He brought the Bobcats within one goal with an unassisted tally with 8:04 left in the second period. Jones then tied the game with 5:29 left in regulation, before picking up the only assist on Loren Barron's game-winning power-play goal 46 seconds later. Kellen is now second on the team with 10 goals, and is tied for second with 25 points. His twin brother, Connor, leads the Bobcats with 24 assists and 31 points.

Greg Carey
Third Star: Greg Carey (SLU)
On Friday night my friend told me that the Saints won, I instantly asked him how many points did Greg Carey have. He told me he had two goals and an assist. I turned back to him and said, "figured." The following evening I saw SLU won again, and I wondered how many points Carey had in this game. I looked it up and I saw he had a goal and an assist. It just seems that whenever the Saints win, Carey always has a good night. In Friday's 4-3 win over Quinnipiac, the sophomore scored SLU's first and fourth goals, while assisting on the second one. Carey once again opened up the scoring on Saturday night with a power-play goal, and then assisted on Kyle Flanagan's eventual game-winning power-play goal in the second period to beat Princeton 4-1. The Hamilton, Ontario native is currently second on the Saints roster with 29 points. Also, he has scored five goals and picked up three assists during SLU's current four game winning streak, which has propelled the Saints from last to seventh in the ECAC standings.
