Three Stars (Week 13)

Troy Grosenick
First Star: Troy Grosenick (Union)
The Dutchmen could have easily been distracted this past weekend due to all the hype and excitement from Frozen Fenway and hosting rival RPI. But, they were able to block out all of this and play two excellent games beating Harvard 2-0 and RPI 5-1. This focus and concentration starts with the goaltender, and Grosenick was an excellent example for his team throughout the weekend. He played a very calm and steady game against the Crimson, making 18 saves. The following night he was wired in making 39 saves against the Engineers, and even chipped in with an assist. The Brookfield, Wisconsin native allowed only one goal over the weekend, lowering his nation-leading GAA to 1.60, and also increasing his nation-leading save percentage to .939. Coming into this season, many were wondering how the Dutchmen could ever replace All-American goaltender Keith Kinkaid... I think that question has been answered.

Kelly Zajac
Second Star: Kelly Zajac (Union)
Union's leading scorer  also had a magnificent weekend. He had his hand in five of Union's seven goals on the weekend. Zajac assisted on Mat Bodie's power-play goal and then scored a goal of his own to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 win over the Crimson. The following night he assisted on three non-five-on-five goals in the win over RPI. In the first period he assisted on Jeremy Welsh's power-play goal and then assisted on Matt Hatch's shorthanded goal. Zajac later assisted on Wayne Simpson's empty net goal. The Winnipeg native has tallied 10 points in his past seven games. Also, his 26 points are tied for second in the league, and 21 assists is tied for best in the league.

Third Star (tie): Sam Labreque & Louke Oakley (Clarkson)
Sam Labreque
The small defender has quietly been one of the best rookies in the league. Labreque came up big for the Golden Knights on Sunday against Yale scoring two goals and adding an assist. Down 2-0, he scored Clarkson's first goal of the game 2:19 into the second period, and then assisted on Clarkson's fourth goal. His biggest play came in overtime when he blasted a shot past Yale goaltender Jeff Malcolm to win the game for the Golden Knights. His 16 points is currently third in the ECAC among defensemen.

Clarkson's leading scorer (22 points) also had a big game with two goals and two assists. He assisted on two power-play goals, including Labreque's game-winner, and scored Clarkson's third (on the power-play) and fourth goals a little over two minutes apart.
