Over the past few seasons, the Union-RPI rivalry has been the most exciting rivalry in the ECAC. All of the game have been very close and many of them have been classic battles, with many of them going into overtime.
Last season, each team won a one-goal game at home, and tied another at Lake Placid. The season before that, Union went 3-1 against the Engineers, but won by a combined score of just 16-13 (one of Union's goal was an empty netter). And in the year before that, Union won all three meetings (one in a shootout) with two of the game going to overtime. Many of these games have had close calls and controversies. There should be more to come this season.
The 2011-12 version of the rivalry gets underway on Tuesday!
