Yeah, that would be "Parity" not "Parody." I graduated without ever having to take a single English/literature/writing class and I knew that. #IAreEngineer
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for being my grammar check! I guess I'm bound to make mistakes like that when writing a post at 1am. I see that's what your job is since you pretty much did the same thing last week on an RPI blog: http://rpihockey.blogspot.com/2011/11/well-that-hurt.html.
ReplyDeleteWe all really appreciate the time to take out of your life to correct all of us on our spelling and grammar, especially when you're so polite about it!
I'm so proud of you for knowing the difference between those two words though! Go give yourself a pat on the back (I'm sure you already have). You are just so much smarter than me, and everyone else for that matter. I'll be sure to make some extra spelling and grammar mistakes in future posts so you can fix them and gloat.
Thanks for reading though! #YouAreAPompousAHole #GetALife
What's even more awesome is the 4-times-as-long response to that reader's correction post.
ReplyDeleteI expect "writers" to actually know how to "write" but unfortunately everyone thinks they're an author/journalist these days...
ReplyDeleteM Forget, what's even more awesome than that is your comment! Thanks for adding to the conversation.
ReplyDeleteLaurel, I never called myself a "writer." If you want to read "real writers" go check out Ken Schott and Ed Weaver. They get paid to write and they're good at it. I am blogging for fun. Spelling mistakes are going to happen. I understand that I am "writing" in a public space and that I will get criticized. But, you don't have to be a self-loathing jerk when criticizing.
I feel sorry for a person who gets their kicks out of criticizing other people for miniscule mistakes. You're not the only one though. Many people can and do act tough when they're behind a computer.
Sarcasm is funny.
ReplyDeleteOn a related note:
This is not what I "get my kicks" doing. It just so happens the 2 comments of mine you have seen on my blogspot profile are related to spelling/grammar but perhaps that just reflects poorly on "amateur writers" who use blogspot. You can see other (non-grammar related) comments of mine on uscho and other fan forums signed in with facebook or other accounts.
Chill out
I think you're the one who needs to relax. You're the one who commented first, remember? All you needed to say was "parity, not parody" and that would've been it. Instead you had to go pump your tires. Very big of you.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how my comment was anything but relaxed. You're the one writing lengthy diatribes about what a terrible person I am. My comment was based on the irony of the fact that you attend(ed?) Union which graduates significantly more numerous liberal arts (including english, journalism, etc) majors and by writing this and other columns it appears that you aspire to a career in that field. Contrasting that with my education which has basically negatively prepared me for the role of proof-reader I just find it funny that there would be such a glaring mistake in the first sentence of your post.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I was not an English major and have not pursued a career in journalism. Writing has always been just for fun to me.
ReplyDeleteIf you just left your hilarious second sentence out of your comment, we'd have no problems. Glad I was able to make your day.
