Austin Smith |
Well, I think it's pretty safe to say that Austin Smith is an absolute stud. Right now, he's not only one of the most dominate forwards in the ECAC, but one of the best in the nation. He currently leads all of college hockey with 15 goals and four power-play goals. Smith has tallied at least one point in each of Colgate's 13 games this year, scoring a goal in nine of those games. He once again proved his dominance with five goals, one coming shorthanded, in two games this weekend. The Dallas, Texas native scored all of the Raiders' goals in a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac on Friday night, and then scored twice (once shorthanded) in the 4-0 shutout of Dartmouth. One should also note that four of his five goals came with less than two minutes in a period, proving he is a clutch scorer. Smith's season-high in goals is 17, which he did in his freshman year... he will definitely shatter that mark.
Andy Iles |
For the second week in a row, an ECAC goaltender posted back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. Last weekend it was Yale's Jeff Malcolm, and this week it was Big Red goaltender Andy Iles. The Ithaca, New York native made 15 saves on Friday against Princeton, and then stopped 32 Quinnipiac shots the following night. After a rough start to the season where he allowed 12 goals over his first three games, the highly touted netminder has allowed only four goals over his past four games.
Third Star: Danny Biega (Harvard)
